Is marijuana celebrated only in the hip hop community? I doubt it, because I was curious about this herb when Rick James was declaring his love for Mary Jane.   Snoop is notorious for advocating for Marijuana in his interviews and music, Method man and Redman gave us, “How high” released august 15, 1995.  In the lyrics he directs us to “Look up in the sky, it’s a bird, it’s a plane/ It’s the Funk Doctor spot smoking Buddha on a train/ How high? So high so I can kiss the sky/ how sick, so sick that you can suck my dick”.

Marijuana has shaped the words of hip hop music and inspired some of the dopiest lines glorifying the herb. However the celebrities that partake in this magical herb are not just Hip Hop artist.  Willie Nelson a famous country musician has been known to get his inspiration from the herbal essence of Marijuana, Rock and Roll legend Chuck Berry, David Bowie and Jerry Garcia just to name a few have all indulged in this green leafy substance.  Refer has been an influence on jazz music since as early as the 20s and 30s.  Known bebop artist like, Lester Young, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk were producing melodic jazz music inspired by Marijuana. Marijuana has been accused of generating creativity and motivation; it has influenced some of the best songs ever written in all genres of music. Marijuana continues to be used by pop icons, rock & roll bands, country music stars and hip hop moguls.  Its influence can be found in all genres of music and it remains popular in lyrics and smoked at concerts of virtually every music genre.
